Obituary of Richard Shiveley, Sr.
Richard D. Shiveley, Sr., 84, Marion, entered into his eternal rest at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion. He is singing with the angels, sitting at the feet of Jesus, and, perhaps, playing the piano which he dearly loved doing!
Born in Fairmount on August 16, 1933, to the late Hamer and Ollie (Davis) Shiveley, Richard graduated from Mississinewa High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Richard achieved the rank of Private 1st Class and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. On December 24, 1953, Richard married the love of his life, Palma Lloyd, and their lives were blessed with six children. He worked at Owens-Illinois in Gas City for eleven years before retiring from the Marion VA Hospital. He also pastored the First Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wayne for ten years and attended Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church.
It was clearly evident the love Richard had for his Savior, and it carried over into every aspect of his life—with his family, his church family, and his co-workers. The joy of the Lord was the source of his constant smile.
Richard was blessed with a large and loving family who have shared: "He was the best example of what a man should be that I have ever known and the single greatest influence in my life. He not only taught me about God, he SHOWED me God!" "He followed Jesus to his final breath."
He is survived by Palma, his loving wife of over 64 years; children, Cynthia Maples, Jonesboro, Timothy (Gladie) Shiveley, Peru, Stephen (Connie) Shiveley, White Lake, Michigan, Gayle Gilmore, Fishers, Richard "Rich" (Alisha) Shiveley, Jr., Fort Wayne, and Paula (Brian) Kushman, Marion; grandchildren, Dewayne, Sharesse, Nicole, Jennifer, Kristie, Tim, Stephen, James, Adam, Lindsey, Morgan, Gillian, Kalina, Evelyn, Wes, Madison, and Josiah; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Everett Shiveley, Lester Shiveley, Lucille Bolhoeffer, Hazel Hawkins, and Margaret Horn.
The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church, 2171 W. Chapel Pike, Marion, IN. Dr. David G. Roland and Pastor Steve Colter will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory.
His Lord said unto him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:21)
