Ralph O. Coop, 81, Marion, passed away at 1:44 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion. He was born in Burkesville, Kentucky, on December 4, 1936, to the late Arvin and Dora (Melton) Coop. On January 24, 1959, Ralph married Peggy Beard, and she survives.
Ralph worked for over 30 years in production at General Motors. Throughout his life, he had taught himself to do a variety of things, from building his own home in Kentucky to restoring cars and making his own guitars and violins. He was a great craftsman. Ralph was also very artistic and loved to paint and do woodworking. His favorite news channel was Fox News.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Peggy; daughter, Angie (Mark) Souers, Upland; grandchildren, Nathan Duke, Marion, Aibrey Coop, Gas City, Yamya Coop, Bunker Hill, and Mark Souers, Marion; sister, Mabel Sells, Burkesville, Kentucky; and 4 nieces and 5 nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Coop; brother, James Coop; and sisters, Pauline Price and Alma Dyer.
The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Ralph's funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018, with Pastor Jerry Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
