John Shelton Dodson, 80, Gas City, died at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, in the Wesleyan Health and Rehab Center, Marion. He was born in Black Rock, Arkansas on March 15, 1937, to the late Clyde Joe and Esther Ruth (Hooper) Dodson. On October 15, 1960, John married Rhea Rumple. She survives.
John was a US Army veteran and retired from General Motors (Fisher Body) after 40+ years. He also farmed 55 acres and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, riding his golf cart and working on farm equipment.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by a daughter, Shelli Maine, Gas City; brothers, Charles Dodson, Michigan, and Harmon (Linda) Dodson, Arkansas; and 4 grandchildren, Briana (Erik) Maine, Maryland, Morgan (Ryan) Overmyer, Marion, Matthew Maine, Marion and Connor Maine, Gas City; 1 great-grandchild who will be arriving soon, Emmalyne Overmyer.
John was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Marilyn Dodson.
The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Dale Schuiteman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
