Johnny Landon Stoner

Johnny Landon Stoner, 79, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in his home. He was born on November 5, 1937, to the late Norman E. and Lucille T. (Morrical) Stoner, Sr. and was a 1956 graduate of Roll High School. Johnny married Joellen Schmidt from Oakland, Nebraska and she survives.
Johnny worked at Anaconda until March 1957, when he enlisted into the US Army. He was trained in the Anti-aircraft Division of the 3rd Armored Division. He served three tours in Germany and one tour at Ft. Mead, Baltimore, Maryland. Johnny served 5 years of active duty and 1 year of reserve duty. He received an honorable discharge from the Army in March of 1963. Johnny farmed in Iowa for 3 years, then returned to Indiana where he worked 12 ½ years at Anaconda and Marion General Motors as a pipefitter, retiring in January of 2000 after 23 years.
Johnny attended the United Methodist church in Roll, Indiana and Gas City. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 645, Gas City from November 1969 to March 2010. Johnny was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where he worshipped and attended various church activities. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and cooking and some of Johnny's fondest memories were hunting and fishing with his dad and cooking with his mom.
Johnny is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Mike) Spencer, Marion; stepchildren, Vickie (Greg) Deeds, of Denver, Indiana, Kim (Rick) Hay, of Cave Creek, Arizona and Deborah Hill, of Strongsville, Ohio; sisters, Joan Tinkle, of Jonesboro, Thelma (Sherman) Claussen, of Irwin, Iowa, and Judy (Larry) Bush, of Uniondale, Indiana; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by son, Norman Stoner, Bowling Green, Kentucky; sisters, Barbara Fry, Chandler, Arizona and Alice Bauman, Jonesboro; brothers, Norman E. Stoner, Jr., Hartford City, John Lewis Stoner, Miami, Florida; and step-grandchild, Christopher Nesbit.
There will be no viewing.
A memorial service for Johnny will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Avenue, Marion, IN. with Pastor William Lahrman officiating. Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park at a later date.
