Obituary of Erwin J. Barry

Surrounded by his loving family, Erwin J. Barry, "Barry", 85, of West Chester, Ohio (formerly of Marion and Gas City, Indiana) peacefully passed away at Hospice of Cincinnati on Monday, September 3, 2012. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he liked nothing better than to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Together with his wife of sixty years, Patricia J. Cobren, they raised 5 children: Jacqueline S. Hodupp, Laura B. Pannier (husband, Pete), David K. Barry (deceased; wife, Jamie), Roger A. Barry and Elizabeth M. Gabrick (husband, Ron).

After serving 8 years in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator and working 30 years at General Motors, Barry enjoyed every bit of his time with his grandchildren: Jeff and Jason Hodupp, Andy and Emily Pannier, Caly Barry, Cody Baker, Jennifer Justice and Brooke Stephens.

He attended Holy Family Catholic Church of Gas City, Indiana and was a member of the American Legion post #10, Marion, Indiana. Barry was renown for his dancing abilities and as a frequent winner at the craps table. Playing cards, bowling, vacationing and watching Turner Classic Movies were also favorite pastimes.

He is survived by his brother, Howard Barry, sister, Evelyn Shearin, and sister and brother-in-laws, Mel and Jacky Jensen and three great grandchildren. He was born and raised in Manhattan, New York by his now deceased parents, Erwin A. Barry and Elizabeth (Hofediner) Barry. They raised a selfless husband, father and grandfather that will be dearly missed.

The family will greet friends, Thursday, September 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN.

A mass and burial service will be held on Friday, September 7th beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1031 West Kem Road, Marion, IN.
