Ethel Marie Shaver

May 20, 1923 ~ July 8, 2019

Ethel Marie Shaver, 96, Marion, passed away at 1:30 am on July 8, 2019, at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marion. She was born in LaFontaine, Indiana, on Monday, May 20, 1923, to the late Homer Forrester and Elsie (Pinkerton) Forrester.

She worked in packaging for 27 years with St. Regis Paper Products, formerly Superior Paper Ware.

On January 5, 1942, she married John Shaver, who preceded her in death. Ethel was a member of Twin City Bible Baptist Church. She was also a member of Extra Years of Zest (XYZ) within the church. When John was still living, they enjoyed going out to eat for breakfast at Jackie's Restaurant. In later years, they would take the grandchildren along. Ethel loved to play the organ. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing board games, cards, and crocheting and embroidery when she was able.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy (Don) Simpson of Marion; daughter-in-law, Nancy Shaver of Mishawaka; granddaughter, Cathy Simpson of Marion; four grandsons, Scott (Lisa) Shaver of Mishawaka, Troy (Missy) Simpson of Jonesboro, Andy (Joey) Simpson of Woodruff, SC, Jeff (Lavon) Simpson of Fortville; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband; son, Robert L. Shaver; sister, Opal Wiley; and brother, Russell Forrester.

Visitation for Ethel will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City.

Ethel’s Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Helm officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sweetser.
