On Monday, June 24, 2019, at 3:10 a.m., Jimmy Lee “Otha” Brown, 70, went to be with his Lord and Savior at Marion General Hospital. Born in Hughes, Arkansas, on October 28, 1948, Jimmy was the son of the late James and Lucille Brown.
Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors, where he had been a mechanic. He was a member of Trinity Victory Baptist Church.
Jimmy was a man who loved being outside, especially going fishing and cutting his grass. He took great pride in keeping his yard looking nice. More importantly, Jimmy will be remembered for how much he truly loved others. He enjoyed his outreach to people, talking and ministering to them whenever he could. He had a passion for teaching others and did so any day of the week.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Stephanie (John) Kelley, Kalamazoo, MI; sons: Stephan (Pam) Speikes, Kalamazoo, MI, and Lonnie Brown, Wabash; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Collins, Hughes, AR; and other special people in life which include his friend, Tyann Cobb; nephew, Anthony Speikes; niece, Bobbie Owensby; brother-in-law, Leon (Lynn) Nicholson; and sisters-in-law, Davetta Keys and Karen Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy, Robert, Joe, and James, and two sisters, Lula and Minnie.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will immediately follow visitation with Rev. Stanford Bolden officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Marion National Cemetery.
