Laura “Jean” Ramey Titus, 95, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Rolling Meadows Health Care Facility in LaFontaine, IN. with her family by her side. Born in Sweetser, IN to Vera Jones Parrish and Clarence Parrish October 20, 1923.
Jean graduated from Swayzee High School in June of 1943. She married Harold McMullen in January of 1943. They had a son and daughter. She married George Ramey in January 1949. She married Phil Titus in April of 1998. Phil was her childhood sweetheart and the got back together after each had lost their previous mates. She and Phil were married almost 8 years before his death. Since it was 57 years since they had once dated, their wedding was on Channel 6 and also articles in the local newspaper and the Indianapolis News. Jean was known for her cooking skills, often making baked goods to take to share wherever she was going that day. Family was very important to Jean.
Jean worked for The Marion Tool Corp in Marion in her younger years retiring after 28 years. She worked at Shoe City for a few years until she married Phil in 1998. She was an avid shopper and loved to travel when they could.
Jean went to live in Rolling Meadows on October 18, 2016 when her health started to decline. She was a member of St. James Lutheran church where she was active in many programs and projects for many years. She was also a member of The Fairmount American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of The Women of the Moose.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Elda (David) Ivey, Jonesboro; son, Tom (Rita) McMullen, Marion; step-daughter, Shirley (Bill) Booth, Terre Haute; 4 grandchildren, Scot Ivey, Indianapolis; Tim (Daphne) McMullen, Marion; Jill (Bill) Wickham, Greenwood; Heath McMullen, Marion; 7 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Marsha Novak, Highland, IN., Vicky Tucker, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Cindy Zalen, Highland, IN, Terri (Frank) Ashenbaugh, Griffith, IN, Haley Biggs, Marion; one nephew, John M. Biggs; sister-in-law, Lillian Davis, Marion.
Jean was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; sisters, Norma Zalen and Wanda Biggs, brothers-in-law, Ed Zalen and Donald Biggs; sisters-in-law, Colleen Harrigan, Margaret Williams and Mary Mullen; step-daughters, Ramona Oliver, Dixie Salter, and granddaughter Holly A. Ivey.
Special thank you to the nurses of Heart to Heart Hospice along with the many friends who were faithful to visit her throughout the years.
Visitation will be from 11am – 1pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Ave., Marion. Memorial service will follow at 1pm with Rev. William Lahrman officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity Cemetery in Marion.
