Obituary of Madeline Ruth Kilgore
Madeline Ruth Kilgore, 95, former long-time resident of Swayzee, died at 3:55 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. She was born in Swayzee to the late Raymond E. and Alta B. (Boswell) Sprinkle. On April 25, 1943, Gene and Madeline Ruth Sprinkle exchanged wedding vows, and they were married 74 years until he preceded her in death in 2017.
Madeline was a 1941 Swayzee High School graduate. Gene and Madeline owned and operated Kilgore’s Market for 40 years (1943-1983). She was a long-time member of Swayzee United Methodist Church, charter member of Swayzee Town and Country, and belonged to the Swayzee Reading Club. Madeline enjoyed spending time at their place on Long Lake. She enjoyed playing the piano for church, painting and working puzzles.
She is survived by her children, William G. (Evelyn) Kilgore, Fort Wayne, Sandra K. (Kenneth) Castor, Grant, Alabama, and Janet F. (Jim) Corn, Delphi; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee.
Madeline’s funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Ginny Soultz officiating. Burial will follow in Converse Cemetery.
