Obituary of Sandra Kay Owen
Sandra Kay Owen, 78, from Gas City, passed away at 6:13 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019, in her home. She was born in Marion on August 14, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy (Moore) Smith.
Sandra was a graduate of Van Buren High School. She married her husband, Charles Owen, on March 21, 1958, and they shared 42 years together before he passed on December 24, 2000. They had three children: Robin, Charles, and John.
Sandra and her husband owned and operated Chug-a-Mug and Pour House for 31 years. She also worked at General Tire for ten years and RCA for five years. She was a great cook, and she enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing the slots at casinos. Sandra was a member of and very actively involved with her church at Eastview Wesleyan.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin (Brian) Morgan, Marion; sons, Charles (Patty) Owen and John Owen, both from Gas City; grandchildren, Mandy Morgan, Holly (Scott) Bailey, Mallie (Juston) King, Delores Soultz, Charles Owen, Christopher Spaulding, John (Tabitha) Owen Jr., and Sandy (Jarron) Owen; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Loretta Blair, Charles Smith, Robert Smith, Gary Smith, and James Smith.
Her granddaughter, Crystal Rose, also preceded her in death, as well as her siblings, Irene Jones, Hershel Smith, Harold Smith, Emmitt Smith, Ernest Smith, Mildred Koontz, and Phyllis DeCamp.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Sandra’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Pastor Mark Atkinson will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.
