Donald Bruce “Hoppie” Hawkins, Sr., 72, Marion, passed away at 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Marion General Hospital. A lifelong resident of Marion, Hoppie was born on February 8, 1947, to the late Delmar and Wanda (Dodson) Hawkins.
On May 4, 1968, Hoppie married his loving bride, Ada Denney. Together they had two children, Donald, Jr., and Amie. Hoppie loved doing small engine repair, especially lawn mowers. He was known for being very outgoing, very likeable, having a big heart, as well as being a jokester and prankster. He loved to spend time with his wife and his dogs, Spike and Little Man.
He will be missed by his wife of nearly 51 years, Ada; son, Donald (Lisa) Bruce Hawkins, Jr., Kentucky; daughter, Amie (Matt) Stephenson, Marion; grandchildren: Cierra, Gracie, and Alyssa from Silver Lake; Terry, Jr., and Raygen from Marion; sister, Becky (Don) Fansler; brothers, Bobbie (Jim) Stratton and Ben Dodson; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Bessie Flynn, Zoletta Fear, Debbie Tackett, Danny Paul Denney, Jessie Denney, and Jim Stratton; favorite nephew, David Flynn; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Cliff Dodson; daughter, Stephanie Hawkins; brother, Terry Hawkins; and brother-in-law, Don Fansler.
The family has chosen to have a private service for Hoppie with cremation to follow.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
