Obituary of Norma Krieg

Mrs. Norma D. Krieg, 85, Galesburg, IL, formerly of Indiana, entered eternity with her Lord and Savior at 4:07 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She is now celebrating with loved ones who have gone before her.

She was born on September 2, 1933, in St. Joseph County, the daughter of Earl and Rose Bickel Surface. She married Rev. Dean Krieg on September 4, 1953, in Warren. Her greatest role besides wife and mother was serving the Lord alongside her husband in pastoral ministry until his death on April 14, 1978.

Norma worked as the education department secretary for Marion College for 2 years. She also was the computer entry manager for the World Missions of the Wesleyan Church for 15 years. She was born and raised in Indiana and moved to Galesburg in 2000. She graduated from Warren High School in 1951 and attended Marion College for a year.

Norma was a member of Hope Wesleyan Church, Galesburg. She was very active in church ministry all her life and had held numerous offices in the Wesleyan Women Groups in Indiana. Norma’s true passion was teaching young children the importance of missionary work and serving the Lord. She enjoyed participating with the New Horizons and was the site council chairperson.

Norma is survived by her children: Judith (Richard) Schilg, Westerville, OH; Pamela (T.J.) Green, Galesburg, IL; and Michael Krieg, Rushville, IL; four grandchildren: Kylie (fiancé David Spencer) Markin, Tacoma, WA; Rick (Taran) Schilg, Johnstown, OH; Katie (Robert) Withrow, Island Lake, IL; and Matthew Green, North Liberty, IA; six great-grandchildren: J.R., Liam, Xander, and Xavier Schilg; Avery and Lily Withrow; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Markwood Surface, George Surface, Rebecca Sousley, Elynor Steele, Donald Surface, and Shirley Smith.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Keith Peachey for his exceptional support and care for Norma over the years; the staff of Rosewood Care Center for brightening her days; and the wonderful nurses in the ICU at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for their tender and sincere care of her in her last few days here on earth.

A Celebration of Norma’s life is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Visitation will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. with David Tippey officiating.  Burial will take place in Park Cemetery.
