Obituary of Lois Elsie Smith

Lois Elsie Smith, 95, Gas City, passed away at her home at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018, of natural causes.  A lifetime resident of Grant County, Lois was born in Gas City on March 15, 1923, to the late Thomas and Inez (Miller) Harter.  She married Palmer L. Smith, Sr., on March 29, 1941, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1986.

Lois was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed crocheting, making dolls, and making candy.  She was very involved in her church at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she was the treasurer for 28 years.  Most of all, though, Lois treasured the times she could spend with her children and grandchildren.

She will be missed by her children, Palmer Smith, Jr., Gas City, Gregory (Judith) Smith, Gas City, Inez Smith, Marion, and Georgia (Robert) Kirby, Marion; grandchildren, Palmer (Tawnee Trusty) Smith III, Ashley (Robert) Skog, Douglas (Stacy) Smith, Christina (Nigaul) Drollinger, Jodie Long, Gretchen Smith, Megan (Andy) Bishop; great-grandchildren, Jaellyn, Renell, Lillian, Taylor, Nathan, Wyatt, Keane, Karina, Krista, Garbrielle, Dalton, and Eli; and great-great-grandson, Hayden.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings and her great-grandson, Robert “Royce” Kirby II.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Lois’ life will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Richard Byrd officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org or PO Box 600 Doylestown, PA 18901.
