Obituary of Nick Combs
Nick C. Combs, 71, passed away in his Lake Placid, FL, home on Sunday, November 4, 2018. He was born in Redfox, KY, on November 19, 1946, to the late Archie and Elizabeth (Fields) Combs.
In 1962, Nick’s family moved to Marion, and he graduated from Marion High School in 1965. On August 9, 1965, he married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” J. Weaver, when they eloped to Tennessee. He is now rejoicing with Pat in heaven, who preceded him in death on August 3, 2017.
While in high school, Nick began working as a sweeper boy at Hartson-Kennedy after school. He eventually worked his way up to Plant Supervisor. He was a dedicated and hard worker, showing up early and often staying late. He retired after 45 years of service.
Nick loved his family more than anything in the world and would do anything for them. He was very proud of his two children and especially proud of his grandchildren. You could see him wearing his “Papaw” shirts often. He took great joy in his grandchildren’s accomplishments. Nick was a generous man with a loving heart who will be missed by everyone he had helped through the years.
He also loved animals and had many over the years, including horses, dogs, cats, cows, and chickens. His children often joked that his horse, Spirit, was the favorite child. He was an excellent woodworker and handyman, and he enjoyed golfing, coon hunting, doing puzzles, family camping trips, Solitaire, fishing, and cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events.
Nick attended Grace Community Church in Marion and Cowboy Church in Nocatee, FL.
He is survived by his children, Danny L. (Julie) Combs, Marion, and Beth A. (Mitch) Wine, Marion; grandchildren, Nicholas (Maggie) Combs, Alexander (Morgan) Combs, Andrew Combs, Addison Wine, and Ashton Wine; great-grandson, Oliver Combs; brothers, Clarence (Patricia) Combs and Adean (Helen) Combs; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Mel, Dennis, Jerry, and David; sister-in-law, Barbara; father-in-law, Melburne Weaver; and several friends.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jean Ann Weaver; brother-in-law, Terry; and his beloved dog, Katie.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
