Obituary of W.L. Stanley

W.L. Stanley, Jr., 69, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 7:18 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.  He was born in Heads, Mississippi, to the late W.L. and Louise (Trotter) Stanley, Sr., on August 23, 1948. 

W.L. was a 1967 graduate of Marion High School, where he played basketball for the Giants.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1973 and achieved the rank of Sergeant.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal.  While serving overseas in Japan, he met Mitsuko Kimura, and they were married on October 8, 1971.

Following his military service, he was employed at Thomson Consumer Electronics (formerly RCA), where he was a computer engineer.  He retired in 1995.  W.L. was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Mitsuko; son, David Shawn Stanley; grandchildren, Aleciyah, Andreana, Tiffany, and Tanner Stanley; sisters, Ollie and Clarice “Nug”; good friend, Al Stevenson; military friend, Manny Cruz; and several more friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Jerry Gene Stanley; and brother, Robert Stanley.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with his funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.  Rev. C. L. Adams will be officiating with burial taking place at Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
