Obituary of Robert W. Durkes
Robert W. Durkes, 82, Marion, died at 8:15 a.m. Friday in Colonial Oaks Health Care Center.
He was born in Marion to the late Albert Wesley and Lilly Fern (Patterson) Durkes and was a life resident of Marion.
He married Ona Evans on Aug. 16, 1946. She survives.
He retired from General Motors in 1989 after 33 years. He was a member of Sunnycrest Baptist Church, the GM Sympathy Club and UAW Local 977. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include daughters, Cheryl A. (Fred) Richards, and Kim (Jack) Alexander, both of Marion; son, Greg Durkes, Draper, Utah; grandchildren, Tara Nevers, and Jennifer and Jason Alexander, all of Marion; great-granddaughter, Kaylynn Alexander, Marion; stepgrandsons, Jason Richards, Battle Creek, Mich., and Jed (Brooke) Richards, Indianapolis; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Shane and Austin Nevers, both of Marion, and Bailey Richards, Indianapolis.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sunnycrest Baptist Church, 2172 W. Chapel Pike, with Pastor Scott Wilkins officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Online condolences may be made at www.nswcares.com
