Obituary of John Eugene Purtee
John Eugene Purtee, 82, 8300 Seminole Blvd., Majestic Park, died Monday in Largo Medical Center was born in Marion to the late John and Ethel (Turner) Purtee. He was a World War II Army veteran, earning the Bronze Star. He married Alice "Geri" (McKee) Pollen he Marion General Motors plant where he was a tool and die maker. He was a member of Grace Community Church, United Auto Workers Local 977 and a life member of the Gas City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 672B.
Also surviving are sons, Ronald E. (Paulette) Purtee, Fairmount, and Brent Purtee, Marion; stepchildren, Edward (Jan) Pollen, Niceville, Fla., Cheryl (Buster) Detamore, Marion, and Kim (Jim) Henderson, Sweetser; sisters, Docina Percy, Jonesboro, and Karen (Bud) Huston, Marion; grandchildren, Scott Purtee and Tiffany (Purtee) Vogts; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Levi and Kaitlyn; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 26 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by brothers, James and Carl Purtee; and sisters, Mary Welch and Toots Byers.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, Marion.
Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
