Obituary of William T. Barnes

William T. Barnes Sr., 82, 3412 S. Meridian St., died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Wesleyan Health Care Center.

He was born in Hennings, Tenn., to the late Eli and Lucy Mae (Bonds) Barnes and was a resident of Marion for most of his life. He married Gladys Whickum on Dec. 29, 1951. She survives.

He was employed at the Marion Malable for 27 years and retired from the Central Foundry, Fort Wayne. He worked at the Jewish Temple for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, outdoors, working on cars and being with his family.

Additional survivors include children Leatha Ann (Anthony) Melendez and William T. Barnes, Jr., both of Marion; brother, Tom (Ruth) Barnes, Halls, Tenn.; grandchildren Christina McCray and William T. Barnes III, both of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., with the Rev. Stanford Bolden officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
