Obituary of John C. Jarrett

Dr. John C. Jarrett, 84, died at 2:28 p.m. Thursday at Indiana Heart Hospital, Indianapolis.

Dr. Jarrett was born in Syracuse, to the late Guy Mitchell and Cora Marie (Crow) Jarrett. Mary Louise (Gilmore) Jarrett, his wife of 48 years, died Oct. 23, 1996. Dr. Jarrett was a graduate of Purdue University, a member of the John Purdue Club and comes from a long line of Purdue graduates which include his father, Guy Jarrett, sister, Mary Gene, son, David, daughter-in-law, Pam, and grandson, Steve. He was also a graduate of Western Reserve Medical School, Cleveland, Ohio.

He started his practice with OB-GYN, Marion, in 1951, retiring in 1982. He delivered 10, 000 babies during this time.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the Air Force.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. John C. (Lisa) Jarrett II, Indianapolis, and David (Pam) Jarrett, South Bend; a daughter, Pamela (Solomon) Van Meter, Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Mary Gene Hawthorn, Elwood City, Pa.; special friend, Peggy Joan Thomas, Wabash; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services are at noon Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Marion, with the Rev. Andrew Schram officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until services at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion.

Memorials may be made to Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine or the Logan Center, 1235 N. Eddy, South Bend, IN 46617.
