Obituary of James Allen Weaver

James Allen "Purr" Weaver Sr., 67, 1309 S. Boots St., died at 11:55 a.m. Sunday in his residence.

He was born in Marion to the late Nela and Helen (Moore) Weaver. He married Katherine C. Williams on Sept. 11, 1965. She survives. He retired from General Tire after 32 years. He was an active member of Allen Temple AME Church, sang in the men's choir and served on the Board of Trustees and the Usher Board. He also served as custodian. He was a member of the Wilson Masonic Lodge 12 F&AM. He enjoyed bowling.

Additional survivors include sons, James A. Weaver Jr. and Richard Lee Weaver, both of Indianapolis, and Steven Lewis Weaver, Marion; daughters, Terrie Lynn Weaver, Dawn Renee Weaver and Stephanie Kay Weaver, all of Marion, and Toni Howard, Indianapolis; a brother, Charles Ray (Frankie) Weaver, Marion; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by siblings, Donald, Clarence, John Weaver Sr., Dorothy Carr and Evelyn Weaver.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday in Allen Temple AME Church, 3440 S. Washington St. with the Rev. Emmanuel Vaughn Sr. officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., handled the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels Hospice.
