Obituary of Ruth Imogene Huffman

Ruth Imogene Huffman, 83, 505 N. Bradner Ave., died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday in Bradner Village Health Care Center.

She was born in Deseronto, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of the late L. Fred and Anna F. Huffman. Her family moved to Marion in August 1931. She graduated from Marion High School in 1939 and completed the course of study at Wayne Beauty School in Fort Wayne in 1940.

She began working as a cosmetologist at OP-AL Beauty Nook, 111½ E. Third St., Marion, on July 2, 1940. She retired from the same establishment March 31, 1992. She belonged to the National and Indiana Cosmetology Associations since 1945.

Miss Huffman was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion since 1931 where she sang in the church's choir for 48 years and also was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years. She was a singer in the Easter Pageant Ave Maria Chorus for 14 years.

Survivors include nieces, Ann H. Crowe, Lexington, Ky., and Virginia H. (Tracy) Boatwright, Fishers; nephew, David W. (Jan) Huffman, Rock Hill, S.C.; great-nieces, Sarah Huffman, Ericka Pickell and Betsy Boatwright; and great-nephews, Guy Huffman, Blake Boatwright, Sam Huffman and Matthew Huffman.

She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne and Keith Huffman; and by her nephew, Martin Huffman.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., with the Rev. Ed Fritz officiating. Burial is in Estates of Serenity cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
