Obituary of Grace Etta Wilson

“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound . . .” Born October 28, 1911, to Fletcher & Epha (Marine) Miller, Grace Etta Wilson, went home to be with her Lord on January 6, 2005. Grace was born in Matthews, Indiana, but lived most of her life in Sweetser, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1933 and shortly thereafter married Orval L. Wilson. Grace was a homemaker in addition to serving as a teacher(TM)s aide and establishing the first school lunch program at Sweetser School and later for Oak Hill United School Corporation. Through many of those years, she provided private nursing care for others in the community. Her granddaughter, Stephanie Lawson, carried on that tradition by caring for her grandmother for the past 6 months.

She was a member of Sweetser United Methodist Church, the Sweetser C.M.T. Club, and an avid gardener. Grace was a long-time Cubs fan and IU Basketball fan.

Survivors include Teil (Robert) Buroker, Swayzee; Mick (Sue) Wilson, Marion; Lee Ann (Chuck) Lawson, Amboy; and Steve (Pam) Wilson, Marion. She has 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Miller; a sister, Leota “Dode” Hatfield; and grandson, Dennis Buroker.
