Roberta P. “Birdie” McDaniel, 94, lifelong resident of Marion, went to be with the Lord at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hartford City. She was born in Marion on March 27, 1925, to Samuel and Vella (Cross) Kelly.
In 1943, Roberta graduated from Marion High School, where she was a cheerleader. She married her beloved husband, George E. McDaniel, and enjoyed 43 years together before he passed away on July 2, 1988.
In her earlier years, Roberta worked at Paramount Theatre. She then worked for 16 years at SCM Paper until her retirement. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family, and she always loved playing Bingo. She is survived by her son, Richard (Brenda) McDaniel, Marion; daughter, Jeanne (William) Samons, Marion; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Cale, Corey, Travis, Laci, Tiffany, Brittany, Melissa, Noah, and Scott; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Martha Moyer.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen McDaniel; daughter, Nancy Messersmith; and brother, Richard Kelly.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Roberta’s life will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
