Phyllis J. Easter

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Phyllis J. Easter, from Sweetser, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:55 a.m. at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion.  Born in Van Buren on June 11, 1928, Phyllis was the daughter of Alonzo and Ethel (Hauptof) Cochran.

Phyllis was a graduate of Van Buren High School and married Thomas H. Easter on November 7, 1946.  They shared nearly 68 years together before he preceded her in death on January 16, 2014.

For twenty-three years, Phyllis was employed at Oak Hill High School.  She retired in 1989.  She volunteered at St. Martins and the MGH Coumadin Clinic.  Phyllis was also actively involved in her church at Sweetser UMC, where she was a member for several years.  She was also a member of a Euchre Club, Good Sam’s Club, and Bowler’s Hall of Fame.

She enjoyed camping and quilting, and she was an avid fan of the Cubs and Purdue.  Most importantly, Phyllis loved her family and it brought her great joy to watch her family grow.  She deeply cherished her grandchildren and endlessly invested in their lives.
