Carolyn G. Rangel

Carolyn G. Rangel, 67, Marion, entered Heaven’s gates at 11:58 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  Born in Sheffield, Alabama, on December 17, 1951, Carolyn was the daughter of Woodrow and Mildred (Preston) VanDiver.  She married her loving husband, Ruben, on June 20, 1970, and it was a tradition of theirs to have “date night” each Saturday night.  They always looked forward to this time together.

Carolyn worked in the nursing profession throughout her life.  She was also a homemaker who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed shopping and talking on the phone.  In her later years, one of her most precious memories each day was when her daughter prayed and read to her every morning and evening.  Carolyn called this her devotion time.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 48 years, Ruben; daughters: Erica (Russell) Ryder, Marion; Annette Betts, Marion; special nieces, Sharon Turgeman and Tammi Diskey; grandchildren: Daniel (Desiree Heath) Rangel, Marion; Danielle (Blake Jamerson) Rangel, Marion; Qur’an Smith, Marion; Maleek (Fancy Lovelady) Smith, Marion; great-grandchildren, Liberty Rangel, Lillian Rangel, Hayden Justice, Jayden Rangel, Kayden Rangel, Maliyah Smith; sisters: Charlene (Charles) Staggs, AL; Barbara Taylor, Gas City; brother, Michael VanDiver, Marion; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Woodrow and Mildred VanDiver, and siblings, Vera Pruitt, Robert VanDiver, Danny VanDiver, Glenda Lovelady, Jerry VanDiver, and Donna Chapman.

The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Healing Heart Church of God, 2701 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, Carolyn’s funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rosa Perez officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
