Paul Eugene Damron, 89, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion. Born in Virgie, Kentucky, on May 13, 1929, Paul was the son of the late Ballard and Maxie (Reynolds) Damron.
Paul graduated from Virgie High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He married his loving wife, Dorothy Newsom, on October 31, 1952, and moved to Marion in 1956. Paul received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education from Ball State University and taught at Justice Middle School, Kendall Elementary School, and Franklin Elementary throughout his career. He had also worked at General Motors Tool & Die Plant in Marion.
Paul enjoyed playing cards with friends, riding his three-wheel bike, boating at Dale Hollow, fishing in Naples, watching Fox News, listening to gospel quartets, and eating at Pelican Bend Restaurant enjoying the grouper sandwich. Paul attended Grace Community Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Damron Nichols, Marion; son, Gregory (Lucinda) Damron, Payton, CO; grandchildren, Corinne (Riley) Rose, Travis Damron, Brett (Brittany) Nichols, and Tony (fiancée, Mary) Damron; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Darah, Lio, Tiyannah, Danae, Trinity, Ryder, and River; siblings, Mary Nell (Edsel) King, Reed (Ruby) Damron, Fern (Joe) Provence, Dean (Angel) Damron, and Anna (Tom) Blevins; and long-time neighbors and friends, Norm (Barb) Roysden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, on February 21, 2018.
The family will receive visitors from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Paul’s funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
