Dorothy “Dot” A. Cunningham, 98, Jonesboro, received her eternal reward at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. She was born in Marion on April 23, 1920, to the late Guy W. and Chloa A. (Harrell) Darst. Dot married Weldon W. Cunningham on September 15, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 2004.
Dot graduated from Sweetser High School in 1938 and retired from Indiana Bell after 33 years as a switchboard operator. Following her retirement, she volunteered in the gift shop at Marion General Hospital for 12 years. She thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone there. Dot was actively involved with the Super Sixties group at Sunnycrest Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, shopping, and traveling. Dot was previously a member of West 8th Street Wesleyan and Gas City United Methodist Church.
She will be missed by her sister, Barbara Wise, Jonesboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Judith (Roy) Allison; brother, Philip Darst; and sister, Marjorie Carmichael.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with Dot’s funeral service beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
