James "Jim" Edward Thomas, 85, died at 11:54 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 in North Carolina. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on June 3, 1932 to the late Merrill and Mary (Figgins) Thomas. Jim married Elizabeth "Carol" Ritchey, his wife of 64 years, on August 8, 1953. She survives.
Jim enjoyed farming and loved stopping and chatting with people at the elevator. Whenever local farmers needed help, Jim was always there. If there was an accident, Jim was there to help. His choice of tractors was always John Deere. On his farm, Jim raised hogs, dogs and cats. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and was a big fan of Purdue basketball.
In addition to his wife, Carol, Jim is survived by a daughter, Jayne (Jay) Green, Rocky Point, North Carolina; a brother, Bob (Marolyn) Thomas, Greentown; sister-in-law, Melody Thomas, Converse.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, David Thomas.
The family will receive visitors from 11-1 p.m on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee. A service to celebrate Jim's life will begin at 1 p.m at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will be in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee.
