Obituary of Esther Collins
Esther C. Collins, 85, Indianapolis, passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Aspen Trace in Greenwood. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 18, 1932, to the late Wallace and Helen (Jackson) Calhoon and was married to Norman P. Collins, who preceded her in death.
Esther was a graduate of Finley High School in Ohio and continued her post-secondary education at Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University), where she received her bachelor's degree. She worked at Marion General Hospital as a lab tech prior to her employment at Dow-Corning Corporation, where she retired also as a lab tech after 25 years. Esther was a member of First Baptist Church in Beech Grove.
She is survived by her step-children, Randall G. (Mary) Collins, Rydell, Georgia, John (Judy) Collins, Brown County, Indiana, and Michelle (Charles) Haase, Fenton, Missouri; several grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Higgins, Marion, and Betty (Bill) Pierson, Vienna, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by siblings, Stephen Calhoon, Hattie French, Margaret Calhoon, and Arthur Calhoon.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Esther's funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
