Obituary of Philip Macomber
Philip Eugene Macomber, 51, went to be with Jesus, passing away peacefully in his sleep at home, in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 11, 1966, to Lucille (Haigh) Macomber. On May 30, 1998, Phil married his loving wife, Angia (Sperfslage) Macomber, who survives.
Phil was a 1984 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School (Grand Rapids, MI). He earned his bachelor's degree in Natural Resources Management at Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI). He then went on to study Landscape Architecture at Ball State University for his master's degree. Phil worked as a web analyst at Taylor University for 15 years. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Marion and UCC in Upland prior to that.
All who knew Phil could see how important his family and his faith were to him. Phil had a great sense of humor, a sparkle in his eye, and a smile always on his face. He was kind and loving, a good listener, a loving son, and a wonderful husband who adored his wife, took great pride in his sons, and loved them all unconditionally.
Phil's interests included rooting for the Michigan Wolverines, cooking, grilling, fishing, and spending time with his family. Phil loved the game of soccer, and most of his family time was devoted to his sons' love of the game—coaching them in their early years, tirelessly chauffeuring them to practices and games, and, most of all, cheering them on as they played soccer. He truly was their greatest fan!
Phil is already deeply missed by Angie, his wife of nearly 20 years; his two sons at home, Charlie and R.J. (who were born in Haiti); his mother, Lucille Macomber (Marion); sister, Ruth Macomber (Wichita, KS); close friends considered family—Jared, DeAnn, Corbin, and Micah Jennette (Schererville, IN) and Jim, Crystal, Caci, Sabi, Jami and Remy Miel (Albion, IN); canine family member, Rocky; as well as many, many relatives who loved him dearly.
Family and friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
A Celebration of Life service for Phil will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN, with Rev. C.L. Adams and Rev. Jared and Mrs. DeAnn Jennette officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Heartline Ministries of Haiti at www.heartlineministries.org or mailed to P.O. Box 898, Sunnyside, WA 98944. A memorial trust fund for Charlie and R.J.'s education is planned.
