Obituary of Mary Coan
Mary Lea Coan, 73, Upland, passed away at 5:35 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at University Nursing Center in Upland. She was born in Marion on May 30, 1944, to the late James Arthur and Mary Esther (McNutt) O'Brien. On December 11, 1971, Mary married John R. Coan, and they shared 37 years of marriage until his passing on June 27, 2009.
Mary was a homemaker and faithfully served her husband and family. She was a member of the Dana Sympathy Club and Sweetser United Methodist Church, and she was also an aide at Marion General Hospital. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and sewing, and was a talented cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Marletta Linn (Steve) Hillman, Gas City; brothers, Terry McNutt and Gary McNutt, both from Gas City; sisters, Nancy O'Brien Brooks, Greenfield, and Janet Eckstein, Marion; granddaughters, Maleah Hillman and Evie Hillman, both from Gas City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Mark Allen Coan and Jerry Eugene Coan; brother, Ladd O'Brien; and Dad Milburn McNutt.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion.
Immediately following the visitation, Mary's funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Herron officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
