James F. DeLaPorte, 78, 3974 E. 575S, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday in Marion General Hospital.
He was born in Hannibal, Mo. to the late William B. and Bertha M. (Marlowe) DeLaPorte and had been a resident of Grant County since 1954. He retired from Whitey's Inc. after 30 years, and was formerly employed at Johnson's Packing for 11 years and also at Dana Corp. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Moose Lodge. He loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors includesons, James A. DeLaPorte, Phoenix, Ariz., Ronald "Joe" (fiance, Kim Rankin) DeLaPorte, and John A. (Karen) DeLaPorte, both of Marion, and William J. (Bobbie) DeLaPorte, Gas City; daughter, Laura R. (Phil) Cox, Marion; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur L. (Carolyn) DeLaPorte, Gas City, and Russell (Nancy) DeLaPorte, Hannibal, Mo.; sisters, Mary Jane (Charles) Hanlin and Esther (Bob) Hirner, both of Palmyer, Mo., and Carolyn Jean (James) Roach, Branson, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Maggie DeLaPorte, Hannibal, Mo., and Judy DeLaPorte, Huntsville, Ark.; several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death bybrothers Robert, William and Ernest.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park cemetery. Online condolences may be made @ www.nswcares.com.
