Gene Thompson, 81, Jonesboro, passed away in his home at 1:21 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018. He was born in Connersville on October 25, 1936, to James and Nellie Thompson. On November 9, 1974, Gene married Patricia "Pat" Hairell, and she survives.
Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from General Motors (Fisher Body) after 34 years as a fork lift driver. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95. He was a real outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, camp, boat, and watch bald eagles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Pat; sons, Ronald Thompson, Florida, Richard Thompson, Florida, Todd Pavey, Marion, Larry Pavey, Fairmount, and Kent Pavey, Fairmount; brother, Dean Thompson, Marion; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Tim Thompson; grandsons, Jamie Thompson, Larry Pavey, Jr., and Adam Thompson; and granddaughter, Kendra Pavey.
The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Gene's funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
