Wayne E. Hipsher

Wayne E. Hipsher, 91, Elwood, went to join his wife at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017. He was born in Rutledge, Tennessee, to the late Herbert and Ada (Bailey) Hipsher. On September 1, 1949, Wayne married Daisy G. Streubuhr, and they shared 51 years together until she passed away on March 16, 2011.

Wayne worked at General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan, before transferring to Marion's GM plant in 1957. He worked as a crane operator at the Marion location until his retirement in 1982. Wayne lived in Rigdon for 55 years and was a member of Rigdon UMC.

He always cooked wonderful meals on the crane and his favorite places to eat at were J&L, Sirloin Stockade, The Post, and Don's Tap. A special thanks to all of the waitresses who gave coleslaw and crackers to Wayne with his breakfast. Wayne enjoyed trips to Tennessee and to his home in Florida for the winter, and he always had a wonderful garden.

Survivors include his children, Deborah (Rev. Donald) Hosier, Enid, Oklahoma, Denise (Jerry) Roth, Indianapolis, Deeon (Bim) Jones, Flushing, Michigan, Denett (Marcus) Pierce, Elwood, and Deanna (Ron Eib, Jr.) Jarrett, Marion; sister, Betty May, Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Kenneth Swan, New Carlisle, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Bertt Jones; brother, Joseph B. Hipsher; and sister, Mary Frances Swan.

Friends and family may call from 11-11:30 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Rev. Donald Hosier will be officiating with burial taking place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery.
